CABIN OFF THE GRID

yeap spent a couple of days at my cabin…no electricity, drink the water right out of the little creek…woodstove …shot a box of shells thru my newly acquired 20 guage shotgun…drank a few beers ..and whooped and hollered a little bit…am ready for springtime ..even though this time of the year is pretty nice …no bugs flying around in yer face all the time trying to get in your eye…every time i come back from Mexcio after being unarmed and defenseless, totally at the mercy of the men with guns ..be they police ..haha..what a fukn joke..or the godamned narcos…it really feels good to be back in the USA..and when i read some of the comments about how the mexican cartels are gonna take over…yeah i get a little laugh out of it….especially when i see some of my neighbors…pretty tough guys all good with guns…and i don’t mean tuff like some MTV bullshit ..i mean like for real tough…like good guys..some go to church…work..have familys…but not guys to push around…yeap i think…the narcos would not last long…especially when it is about 12 degrees outside …they are tough against unarmed people in Mexico…but against armed Americans …they would all die in short time …fells good to walk around…. to breathe the fresh air untainted by fear

    what do u think about the milatary buying the arms from the civies, i think its a ploy to totally disarm the civies, which crtel controls the state in which they are doing this,, whom ever they are, the cartel,, they will end up with the weapons, they milatary should win the trust of the civies by cuting up the weapons in front of whom turns them in,,, whats your take on this, thanks max

  thanks for the reply, I am guessing you were right. Still seems off, lots of new people but they are posting lukewarm or rehash old shit. I hate to be so critical but it was so good before. then when smurfs name was missing I thought there goes the best BB reporter, it became boring. Now you creative folks are somewhat back but still seems less than what it was.
  good luck with your blog I am sure it is tongue in cheek with you but that is what makes you so fun. you buela and some of the others i think are very informative and intertaining at the same time. Urny, well he is truly crazy. not for his opinion, but it does not matter the position stated he will attack it and be pretty rude and crude. but i guess he adds something. i guess

Car bombs in Monterrey

what is the point of this ..just to spread fear…were there any specific target(s)…maybe to gauge the reaction of the police…maybe to set them up for an ambush…whatever the reason…this and the grenades are the worst of all…
it is so crazy here …on the surface all is well, if you have ever been to Money terra rey…you know how modern it is and rich it is and how many people are put and about all over the place…it seems really “civilized”..there are cops all over , and you don’t see any obvious signs of any trouble…but then out of the blue…here comes a convoy of militares..in full combat gear , faces covered , guns at the ready..you wonder why?…everything seems ok ..what is up..sometimes i write things that to some people might portray Monterrey as a war zone …as in what we all visualize as a war zone …bombs bursting in air …pitched battles etc…but that is not the way it really is …

to the untrained eye …not one thing is out of place ..but after a while you start to see it ..people run traffic lights…speed …throw trash write graffiti everywhere …borrachos on the street sleeping …side walks all broken up ..no lines on the roads to mark where you park or drive…people begging in the streets or at the intersections …the halcones hanging out ..the strange guys with the mean look in their eyes..prostitutes ..underage prostitutes…the brothels ..painted pink with a neon sign that just says “open”.. the dirty gritty streets, buildings half completed …half falling down..horns honking ..busses all marked up painted a mix of diverse color schemes …some brand new , others antigue looking, flying in all directions..exhaust fumes ..people who are either scurrying or seem to be in some sort of a trance walking right out in the street ..unaware of their own safety..

and in the wealthier areas the trendy bars and restaurants, the new cars ..shiny people…expensive shops…at least as fancy and high tech as anything you will see in an American city…you can feel the money ..and from the people the arrogant attitude …

there seems to be no concept of social conciousness from the upper classes towards the lower classes…no connectedness ..not even enough to to maintain utilities, roads or other systems used by everyone

this is to me a social war, and is the most apparent war … then when you watch the news and see the bodys …or actually see the blood on the streets from a recent killing, it combines …i used to tell people the most dangerous thing about Monterrey is the possibility of getting ran over by a bus, that is still there …but now that is compounded by the possibility of being blown up by a car bomb

is Monterrey a war zone ..not in the traditional sense , at least not yet…but it is a war zone, ..the kind that slowly creeps up on your mind

it seems like there are two kinds of people here ..

the poor who are uneducated , and have been brutalized to the point that they don’t know how to behave properly…

and the wealthy who are educated..but are so arrogant that they don’t feel that they should have to behave in a civilized manner

many of the wealthy here are just the descendants of criminals of some generations ago who were successful enough to kill their way to the top and become “legitimate”…they are proverbial educated, well dressed wolves…only now with perfect fangs and manicured claws

the criminals and lower classes of today know this and also know that it is within their grasp to attain the same status..to me that is why the corruption and lawlessness in Mexico is so hard to stop

just a little yokel rant that occurred to me while i was fighting my way through traffic yesterday

daily thought on Monterrey

i was over in the mitras area last night and for the first time here ..seen a little convoy(6) of soldados in humvees..usually they are in pickup trucks..it added a new level to the portending war zone feel…

just about got ran over by three trucks of some of monterrys finest speeding like all hell off to somewhere on constitucion

watching tv here is surreal from goofy clown shows…to hot babes dancing cumbia , to bloody murder on the news …bread and circus?

drove over to san pedro..differen’t world over there …got to love the arrogance of the wealthy…i had to sit through a stop light twice , because even though the light changed , they wouldn’t stop going… finally a bunch of us just went for it and bulled our way through, all the while trying to edge each other out…yeap estillo mexicano

the creepiest thought of all is the hand grenades and god preserve us all , car bombs…

also yesterday i went to a little street market where they sell used clothes ..bought a pair of pants for 30 pesos…kinda high ..but everything has went up lately ..

and on the way back witnessed two pitbulls killing another smaller , younger looking dog…there were probably ten people standing around watching it happen…most of them looked concerned , but nobody was doing anything about it , it was like they just couldn’t conceive of intervening , even though they looked concerned …another Mexico in a nutshell incident …

even if people care they don’t know how to react …i stopped and yelled at the dogs , and was about to get out of the car and grab them but then i drew attention…

it made me feel really sad , and helpless ..any other time i would have tried to stop it …but not here ..don’t stick out..just go on…maybe the little dog is better off dead…at least that is what i am telling myself

cold rainy nasty muddy day today,,,the busses are flyin as usual and if you don’t want to be drowned in some seriously nasty street water …don’t stand by any puddles…i just know the get some delight when they catch somebody unawares and splash them good ..jejeje…pinche culero mojarro..or something like that January 15, 2011 10:07 AM

yeah man they are all over the place ..convoys here and convoys there…the army has these 40 mm auto grenade launchers mounted ..on the trucks…and a guy in full combat armor ..six or eight full combat geared soldados in the back…they wear green camo…the feds are the same ..only all in black..or six trucks at a time ..sometimes more ..sometimes along with the feds..sometimes alone…plus the Monterrey cops ..all over the place…and estatls…also down on B juarez ..and around the mercado area ..there a bicycle cops..from the amount of police …if you didn’t know better you would think it is all under control..and it is ..i mean it is not like every time you go out you see open warfare…but the thing here is ..is that it can look totally safe ..and any minute the shit can hit the fan… it is not so much what you see going on..but what you can feel with the undercurrent…and the occasional weird shit goin on ..looks …guys hanging out ..looking strange …if you are on the street and you hear tires screech or loud acceleration…or a backfire from a car …or see big four door trucks coming ..it really creeps you out…like i say ..controlled panic…

there are tons of police here…but they are always goin somewhere else…but thats good …you don’t want to see them coming anywhere near to where you are

…they don’t screw around down here ..the narcos are armed up and seem to have the nerve ( cocaina) to shoot it out with the police y army…and i don’t think they are really gonna make much effort to miss “civilians”

i don’t think Monterrey is gonna break out into open warfare any time soon…but , for real man…it could ..at least in limited areas..for limited times…

ordinary things like getting stuck in traffic have a totally new dimension here

i got to say this ..also..i really do think that without all the army and feds ..it would be open combat …nobody has much faith in the monterrey cops…their full name is pinches ratas culeros policia..and from my personal experience they about half deserve it ..but life goes on…everybody has to go to work ..sell on the street…etc…Mexicans are nothing if not tough and resilient..plus ..people believe that when it is your time it is your time ..and not before
